Commercial refrigerator controller faults and error codes

A displayed temperature or error code is useful evidence, but it does not always identify the failed part. The controller, sensor, wiring, fans and refrigeration system may need to be checked together.

Safe checks first

Photograph the display

Record the complete code and current temperature before switching power off or changing settings.

Check the setpoint

Confirm that the target temperature was not changed accidentally and that the controller is not in defrost mode.

Look for airflow problems

Do not block the internal fan outlets, and check whether heavy frost is restricting airflow.

When service is needed

Repeated sensor code

A sensor, connector or cable may be open, shorted or reading outside the expected range.

Temperature does not follow the display

The displayed value, actual product temperature and compressor operation should be compared.

Electrical danger

Stop the equipment if there is smoke, a burning smell or repeated electrical tripping and it is safe to do so.

Common questions

Should I clear an error code before taking a photo?

No. Photograph the code and model information first because the display helps the technician understand the fault.

Does a sensor code mean the controller must be replaced?

Not necessarily. The sensor, wiring and connector should be checked before deciding.

Can I use another controller with the same appearance?

Do not assume so. Supply voltage, sensor type, outputs, defrost logic and programming must match the equipment.
